From this point until I decide to change it, I will post a tribute to someone or something, pretty much at random.

How I got Gmail

Middle America posted a comment asking how I got Gmail. I tried in many different ways, but only one was successful. I will post how I did this.

1. I went to gmailinvitation.com and signed up to be a member. I was told about this site by someone who replied to my post at gmailswap.com.

2. Once there I read the rules, which stated that I needed at least 5 posts to be considered for an invite. So, I started posting.

3. I replied to people's posts giving them tips in many different sections of the site. I posted mostly in the Gmail Messenger part of the site because I think it is a stupid idea to reinvent the wheel, but anyway.

4. I was noticed by a few of the higher members who could give out invites because I was an active member. They knew I wanted an invite, so I had my foot in the door.

5. The problem though, is that apparently Gmail reached 15 million members and started to cut back on giving out invites. So this site that I was trying to get my invites from was dying quickly. They had a bit of a civil war, some leadership changes and such. Just before the members I had an in with were banned, they sent me an invite that was due to expire in a few days.

6. I saw the PM (be sure to check your PMs on this site, because if you miss them you are screwed.) and I quickly got my name. Now I am Gmail with the best of them.

Oh, and Middle America, if I get any invites off hand, I will give one to you. That is of course after I give it to other people I promised. But I think you are like the third.

Thanks.

No, you don't need to live in the US. Gmail would probably like it for people from other countries to test it since it is in beta. You should try to get it, because it is really cool.
